If you’ve got a bare concrete slab out back, you probably don’t use it much between May and September. The concrete bakes, the glare gets rough by mid afternoon, and the space just sits there. A pergola fixes that without walling your yard in.
We build custom pergolas over existing patios, in wood or in aluminum, and every one is drawn for the patio it’s going on. The open lattice roof knocks the sun down to something you can sit under, and because the sides stay open the heat rises out instead of collecting underneath. What you end up with is shade, a bit of privacy, and an outdoor room your family will actually use.

Design and Materials
Our own designers draw a pergola that suits your house rather than pulling one out of a catalog. You pick the material, the column style, the color and how much of the patio it covers.
Build and Walkthrough
Our crew sets the posts, frames the roof and cleans up after themselves. Before we call it finished, we look over the whole thing with you.
Once the design is signed off and the materials arrive, the build itself doesn’t take long.

What Affects Your Pergola Price
Every patio is a different size and shape, so we won’t quote a pergola until we’ve stood on yours. Four things move the number more than anything else.
Wood or Aluminum
Material moves the price more than anything else on the list. They look different and they age differently, and we’ll go through both with you.
Size and Coverage
A pergola over one seating area costs less than one spanning the whole patio, so the size makes a big difference to the price.
Attached or Standalone
Tying the frame into the house is a different job from standing a structure up on its own out in the yard.
Design Details
Column style, corbels, lattice spacing and the stain or color you choose all sit on top of the base price.

What exactly is a pergola?
It’s an open air structure with a lattice roof sitting on columns or posts. It goes over your patio, knocks the sun back, and frames the seating area without closing it in.
Do you build in wood or aluminum?
Both. We specialize in wood and aluminum, with custom styles and colors either way, and you’ll see both priced out at the consultation so you can compare them properly.
Will a pergola keep the rain off?
No, and that’s by design. The roof is open, so light comes through and so does rain. If what you want is a dry patio in a downpour, a solid patio cover is the better fit and we build those too.
Can it attach to my house?
Yes. We build them attached to the back of the house and freestanding out in the yard. Where the sun falls and how your patio is shaped usually settle which way to go.
How much shade will I get?
Enough to make the patio usable in summer. The open roof cuts the direct sun off you, and because the sides stay open the heat rises out instead of sitting there.
Do you help with the design?
Yes, and it’s included. Our own designers work the structure around your home’s style and the way you want to use the space, and that’s all part of the free consultation.
Do I need a permit for a pergola?
That depends on your city and your subdivision, and finding out is our job rather than yours. All-Tex pulls the permits on everything we build, anywhere we work, so you’re never the one filling in forms or waiting at a counter.

How long does a custom pergola take to build?
Once the design is signed off and the materials are on site, your project manager will give you the schedule and keep you updated as the work goes along. Most pergolas go up quickly, but you’ll have real dates rather than a guess.
Do I need HOA approval for a pergola?
Plenty of Houston area neighborhoods want sign off before you put a structure in the back yard, so it’s worth asking your HOA early. We’ll hand you the drawings and the details they need to see.
Can a pergola go over my existing patio?
Usually yes, and that’s how most of ours go up. During the in home visit we look at the slab, how it drains and what the footings can take, then design around what’s already there.
How much upkeep does a pergola need?
A wood pergola holds its color best if you seal or stain it every few years, the same as any exterior wood sitting in the Texas sun. Aluminum just needs a rinse now and then.
