What Affects Your Deck Price
Deck pricing starts with square footage and material. Height, railings and how easy the yard is to get to shift it from there.
Wood or Composite
Decking material moves the price the most. Cedar, treated pine and composite each have their own look and their own upkeep.
Size and Shape
Square footage drives the total. A deck that wraps around trees or corners takes more cutting and more framing than a square one.
Levels and Height
One level sitting low costs less than a stepped deck or a second story build with a staircase down to the yard.
Rails, Steps and Finish
Handrail style, the number of steps, and the stain or color you choose all add to the base price.

Deck Questions, Answered
Should I pick wood or composite?
Wood costs less up front and looks warm right away. Composite costs more, but it saves you time later because it doesn’t need staining. We price both at the visit.
Can you build around my trees?
Yes. Decks can be built to wrap around trees, corners and the features of your home. We lay the shape out on site so the deck works with what is already in the yard.
Can you fix the deck I already have?
Often, yes. If the framing underneath is still sound we can bring an older deck back instead of starting over. We tell you straight which way makes more sense.
Can a deck go off a second story?
Yes. We build second story decks with a staircase running down to the yard. That’s a good option when the ground floor has no door out the back.
Do you add handrails and steps?
Yes. Handrails and multi level steps are part of what we build, and we match them to the decking so the whole thing reads as one piece.
How do I get a price?
We come out, measure the yard, talk through the layout and price it while we’re there, and it doesn’t cost you anything.
Do I need a permit to build a deck?
That depends on the size, the height off the ground and your city. We find out for your address and pull the permit ourselves, the same way we do on every project we build.

How long does a custom deck take to build?
Once the design is approved and the decking is on site, your project manager hands you a schedule and keeps in touch while the crew is out there.
Do I need HOA approval for a deck?
Plenty of Houston area neighborhoods ask for sign off before you add a structure in the back yard. Check with your HOA early. We’ll hand you the drawings and the details they want to see.
Can a deck have more than one level?
Yes, and it’s a smart move on a sloped yard. We step the deck down with landings and stairs between the levels, which also splits the space into a dining spot and a sitting spot.
How much upkeep does a deck need?
A wood deck holds its color best if you seal or stain it every few years, the same as any exterior wood in the Texas sun. Composite decking takes a wash now and then and little else.
