What is fiber cement siding?
It’s a board made from cement, wood fiber and sand, cured with pressurized steam so it comes out stable and strong. James Hardie is the best known maker, which is why people call it Hardie plank.
Why replace wood siding with it?
Wood rots, feeds termites and drinks up rain. Fiber cement does none of that, and the thicker board resists cracking, peeling, swelling and chipping.
Does it still look like wood?
Yes. Most styles are made to look and feel like wood, including horizontal clapboard and shingle patterns. You get the wood look without the wood problems.
How does the price compare to vinyl?
It costs more than vinyl but less than stucco, stone or wood. It also handles wind driven debris better than wood or vinyl does.
How much upkeep does it need?
Installed right, it just needs a look now and then. Repaint it when you want a new color, not because the boards are failing.
Do you remove the old siding?
Yes. Removal and replacement is the work we do most. The old boards come off and leave with us, and the price is in your written estimate.

Does new siding help with termites?
Fiber cement gives termites nothing to eat. The wood fibers are cured into the board during manufacturing, so the bugs move on and look elsewhere.
Can you replace the siding on just one wall?
We can. Storm damage and rot often hit one side of the house harder than the rest. At the consultation we’ll tell you honestly whether one wall or the whole exterior makes more sense.
Who should install fiber cement siding?
Someone who puts it up every week. Workmanship matters as much as the board itself, and siding installed the wrong way won’t last. We’ve been doing removal and replacement in Houston for 35+ years.
