A patio cover in the Houston area costs $8,000 to $30,000 for aluminum and $12,000 to $100,000 for wood. These are real ranges from All-Tex Home Improvement Services projects across Greater Houston. Every cover we build is custom, so there’s no set price list. Size and site prep move the price more than anything else.
Patio cover cost at a glance
| Cover type | Typical Houston range | Best for |

| Wood (treated pine or cedar) | $12,000 to $100,000 | A warm, traditional look you can stain or paint |

What affects the cost of a patio cover?
- Size. A larger cover needs more material, more support and more labor. Square footage drives most of the total.
- Site prep. Access for the crew, the condition of your slab and any drainage work can change the scope.
- Material. Aluminum and wood price differently. With wood, treated pine costs less than cedar.
- Finish-out. Stain, paint, trim and column details all add to a wood cover.
- Add-ons. Ceiling fans, lights, outlets and gas lines need extra work. They’re simplest to add while the cover is being built.
One thing that doesn’t add to the price at All-Tex is tying the cover into your existing roof. Most homeowners want that look, and we don’t charge extra for it.
Aluminum or wood: which costs less?
| Aluminum (Alumawood) | Wood | |
|---|---|---|
| Up-front cost | Generally about 15% less than a wood cover of the same size | Higher, and cedar costs more than treated pine |
| Upkeep | Usually lower | Needs staining or sealing over time |
| Look | Clean lines, with color and style options | Warm and traditional |
| Houston humidity | Will not rot | Needs protection from moisture |
The cheapest cover on the day you sign is not always the cheapest over time. Ask what upkeep each option needs, and how often.

Is an insulated patio cover worth it in Houston?
For most Houston homeowners, the reason to build a cover is getting out of the sun. We use Alumawood insulated roof panels, which keep more of the heat off the people underneath and quiet the sound of rain. They cost more than a standard roof. If you plan to sit out there on summer afternoons, ask us to price it both ways at the visit.
Do you need a permit or HOA approval?
Most patio covers need a permit, and rules change from city to county to neighborhood. All-Tex handles the permit for you. That’s part of the job.
Many neighborhoods in Spring, The Woodlands, Kingwood and Tomball also need HOA approval before work starts. Your HOA will only take the application from you, the homeowner, so we give you the drawings, materials and colors it asks for and help you through it.
How long does it take to build a patio cover?
Every cover is custom, so there’s no set timeline. A straightforward cover can go up in a single day once the materials arrive. Bigger, more complex outdoor projects take longer. Your project manager gives you the schedule once the design is approved.
How do you pay for a patio cover?
- Most projects: 50% down to get on the schedule, with the rest due when the job is done.
- Larger projects ($30,000 and up): paid in 3 or 4 stages, with 25% or 33% down.
- Financing: available. Your consultant walks you through the options at the free estimate.
How to compare patio cover quotes
Two quotes for the same size cover can differ because they include different things. Check that each one lists:
- The exact material, and for wood, whether it’s treated pine or cedar
- Whether the permit is included
- What electrical or gas work is included
- The payment schedule and the start date
- Proof of insurance
What homeowners say
“My 12×12 patio cover was installed in less than a day. No mess was left! A ceiling fan was installed as well, and now I can sit on my patio during rain or shine and enjoy being out doors.”
Claire O., Google review
“My patio cover was finished in 8 days from the time of quote. The crew that done the installation was very courteous and was done with the installation in 3 1/2 hours.”
Gary L., Google review
“As the rear of my house and roof design had many angles, I was amazed that they were able to design and mold into the home as if it was originally built in in the initial construction process. … Price quoted, was price paid.”
